4 Top Reasons Direct Selling Can Help People in A Bad Economy

Direct selling is a marketing channel of direct distribution for products and services directly to consumers without the shipping of products to conventional retail outlets.

According to the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA) the Direct Selling Industry was responsible for over $28 billion in retail sales in the United States and over $114 billion in retail sales worldwide in 2009. That number continues to grow each year. The direct selling sector is a huge engine of economic growth in the US. According to numbers reported by the Direct Selling Association (DSA), more than 50% of American adults report having purchased services or goods from a direct selling representative. Additionally, one in five American adults claim they have been or currently are working as a direct seller. With more than 62 million sales associates connected with direct selling companies worldwide, the direct selling (network marketing) industry is dynamic and growing not only locally but on a global scale. Here are a couple reasons why direct selling is taking off:

1. Earn Extra Income

Direct sales can be a great way to earn some extra money as a supplemental income, or perhaps fund college savings, and retirement. Like any job, particularly in sales, so it is work. It’s not like you sign up and then all of a sudden checks start rolling in. You have to hold parties, demonstrate the products, and one-on-one selling which is the most popular technique for making product sales. But, while all direct sellers make money on the difference between retail and wholesale product prices, most direct-sales companies also have a commission structure that rewards the “downline” recruitment of additional salespeople into their system. This gives the direct seller an opportunity to expand his/her business as well as give others the same opportunity.

According to the DSA, the median income for direct sellers is a modest $2,400 a year. It’s enough to pay that extra bill, take that vacation or buy better holiday presents. Although some sales representative do earn tidy incomes, most use direct selling as a part-time supplement income.

2. Start A New Career

In 2009 the industry hit an all-time high of about 16.1 million Americans were direct sales representatives, according to the Direct Selling Association and with only 7.5 percent involved doing it full time with more than three-quarters being women. With employers watching their budgets more so than ever because of the bad economy, employees incomes as well as job opportunities have been stagnant. Nowadays, Americans more than ever are trying to make ends meet by turning to direct selling. More professionals today have entered the arena from doctors, attorneys, executives and many more have become instant entrepreneurs in the direct selling industry.

3. Start Your Own Business

Anyone can do it. There are no required levels of education, experience, financial resources or physical condition. People of all ages and from all backgrounds have succeeded in direct selling. Direct sellers are independent contractors. You’re your own boss, which means you can have the following:

  • Business Ownership-Own a business of your own Boss and call your own shots.
  • No Caps on Earning Potential- Earn what you are truly worth. You can earn as much as you want in proportion to your own efforts. The level of success you can achieve is limited only by your commitment and willingness to work hard.
  • Goal Setting-Set your own goals and determine yourself how to reach them.
  • Easy Start Up & Exit Strategy-Start your business with very little or no capital investment. Plus, it’s a business that’s easy entry and easy exit unlike traditional businesses.

4. Work flexibility

You choose when and how much you want to work either part-time or full-time. According to the DSA, some 5.1 million Americans were involved in some form of direct sales in 1991, up from 4.7 million in 1990. Furthermore, 89% of direct sellers do sales work only part-time, which means they either are homemakers or have other jobs with women accounting for 90% of all sellers. Many direct sellers are attracted by the flexibility of work hours but also by the opportunity to develop personal business connections.

Direct sales has helped many people in the US and across the world supplement their incomes as well as replace it in many cases. According to San Francisco Times, one lady of Brentwood started selling sweets last year by holding house parties with tastings of drinks, candy, cupcakes and other goodies. With her husband’s computer business struggling this has been a blessing for them.

She gives four or five parties a month, and works about 10 hours a week and nets $500 to $625 a month in sales. In addition to that she makes another $100 or $150 a month on commissions from sales generated by new reps she recruited. She claims, “It’s helped us out tremendously.”

So is Direct Selling for YOU?

Well that all depends on your ambition and ability to discard the hype and find a genuine business opportunity. So how about it… Is direct selling for you? Will you allow yourself to be successful? Perhaps be the next Direct Selling Icon? Business is all about timing and there is no better time now to be in the direct sales industry..

Email Marketing for Beginners

After doing so much research I concluded that most of the businesses thinking about promoting their products and services through email marketing are not searching for “how to create an effective email campaign?” but rather they are goggling about the most basic and standard question, “What the hell is this Email Marketing”. According to the numbers of a keyword research analysis, at least 675,000 people monthly demand answers to this very question.

So that’s why after so much reading and research this is my first effort in response to those hundreds of thousands of people searching answer of this question into search engines every month. So now I will define what this marketing channel is, how it can be beneficial for business and how it works exactly.

It is a form of ‘Direct Marketing’ which uses email as a channel of communication. We all know about direct marketing, it describes all marketing form goes straight to the end-user. Companies use it as an outreach method to generate exposure for their product or services, drive traffic to their website, and to build and retain a loyal customer base. Does the term customer loyalty remind o you of something? Yes the CRM cycle, so it use the same path as CRM cycle to build the customer cycle.

So, before getting towards the technical components of how it works, it is important to understand its classification.

1. Newsletter Email Marketing: It’s primary goal is to keep in touch with the opt-in email database of existing customers on a frequent basis. This is an attempt to maintain the relationship with existing customers and updating them about the new press release, new developments or upcoming events etc.

2. Promotional Email Marketing: It is very much similar to the previous one, just not used on a regular basis like weekly or monthly. It is used to inform the customers about promotional activities which can be either about new product or services launches or coupons, sales, or special promotions.

3. Acquisition Email Marketing: This type of marketing is centered towards acquisition of new customers. It involves sending emails with the intention of driving traffic towards your website, and encouraging new customers to sign up for something, juice up the sales or merely gaining exposure of your company’s brand name, product, or service offerings.

Some people see this type of email marketing as spam because it involves mass mailing to those who are not customers yet. But if you want to attract new customers, this type of emailing is important and you have to find an ESP who can provide you an opt-in email database to which you can send your emails directly without spamming. Or you can build your own opt-in list through various ways like participating in promotional online activities, through your blog, at point of sale, hold a contest, offer free information etc. Well that is a different topic and I will talk about that later. There is also another way, you can purchase email list from link broker but I personally don’t recommend that.

Promotion of commercial services and products via email has become one of the most effective and inexpensive way of advertising. Based on a recent survey, approximate. 90% of people on internet prefer to be notifying through email about any product or services while only 10% prefer to be notified on Facebook. According to the above data clutter on the internet is increasing steadily.

Email Marketing for Small Business – Are You In?

With the rapid advance of social media, many marketing “experts” believe that email marketing is a thing of the past. Yet, quite to the contrary, email marketing continues to be a highly effective, inexpensive, and thriving medium for businesses large and small. So what are the benefits of this type of marketing and how can you make it work for you?

Small business owners should first recognize that the cost of email marketing is a small fraction of the cost of traditional direct marketing campaigns. Newsletters, dynamic ads, and subscription services can be sent to a massive number of potential customers without incurring the costs of postage. More importantly, because of the ability to reach a mass audience almost immediately, even a one percent response rate from an campaign can have a massive impact on your bottom line. Yet, the most effective email marketing campaigns routinely achieve response rates of up to 5 or 10 percent.

Some recent statistics released by DoubleClick following an email customer study found that nearly three quarters of online shoppers have made purchases as a result of email marketing campaigns, and almost 60 percent of email recipients were enticed to make in-store purchases. The power of this type of online campaigns is undeniable.

Email marketing programs can be utilized in a number of ways. You can keep your clients updated on news and special promotions; you can send direct emails to potential clients with links to your home page; and, you can promote products and services. Ultimately, the goal of email campaigns is to increase traffic to your website, improve conversion rates, and increase your return on investment (ROI).

Still, regardless of the effectiveness of these marketing techniques, how can you make emails work for you? When developing an email campaign, it is always best to consult with a professional internet marketing firm. A solid internet marketing firm will

Identify your target market,
Develop a plan for and track the success of your email marketing campaign,
Integrate 3rd party email marketing services and social media,
Develop email sign-up forms for your website,
Design email templates,
Create and manage your email list, and
Track and analyze website traffic as it relates to your email campaign.
There are many reasons that is effective. First, we have already mentioned how easy it is to reach large numbers of potential clients through email, but these campaigns can also be specifically targeted to your most motivated market. Moreover, these campaigns are both data and direct sales driven, while also giving you an opportunity to build relationships and loyalty with new and existing customers. Finally, it can help you generate more traffic to your website and even physical locations.
